About Me
- Name: Jon
- Location: London, United Kingdom
Whilst I won't pretend to grok string theory, the idea of actually being a one-dimensional extended object, or even a collection of one-dimensional extended objects feels a bit strange.
Being composed of totally-antisymmetric composite quantum states however does appeal to me at some level.
Photographs on this blog are generally taken by myself, when they are not I'll place a credit to the appropriate photographer.

The picture look lovely, what camera/lens combo are you using?
I used a Canon EOS 40D and an EF 28-105 f/3.5-4.5 II USM lens.
It was the first time I used the camera and I made some silly mistakes experimenting, which meant that many (most) of the photos were not within acceptable levels of sharpness,
At these small sizes it is hard to tell but when viewing at 100% and when the panning was done well the features and text on the cars are excellent, almost as if they were stationary.
Unfortunately only a tiny proportion of shots were that good (about 2%). Many others where sharp enough(about 10%), but the vast majority had too much motion blur (from not panning at exactly the same speed of the cars were moving).
The biggest mistake of the day however was not getting there early enough to have time to find a better spot.
If I had walked another 10 minutes down the track there was a chicane, which would have allowed great shots of the cars as they came down the track. It would also have provided me with a better chance of getting better panning shots as they would have been moving slower than they were where I was positioned, at the end of the long straight.
